Under the leadership of Maurizio Marcocci, University Food Group Director and Chair of My Room, we’re proud that our family business is a part of initiatives that contribute to the wider community and help young people and their families.
Stronger Together – Joint Statement from My Room & Children’s Cancer Foundation
In April 2025, Maurizio and Hon. Jaala Pulford, Chair of Children’s Cancer Foundation, issued a powerful statement addressing rumours of funding changes at the Royal Children’s Hospital’s Children’s Cancer Centre. They affirmed:
“We have not withdrawn support. Our commitment remains firm… as recently as 5 March of this year, we reaffirmed our commitment and expressed a strong desire to fund further positions.”
Through collaborative efforts, My Room and the Foundation secured additional funding to ensure critical roles remain supported, protecting child and family care without interruption. This rapidly resolved situation underscores Maurizio’s steadfast dedication to clinical care and staff morale across Victoria.
Achievements Under Maurizio’s Leadership
Maurizio’s personal journey, from overcoming childhood Hodgkin’s disease to leading both University Food Group and My Room, is a proud achievement. This year the charity has achieved a remarkable milestone, in partnership with the Children’s Cancer Foundation and Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, My Room supported the appointment of Professor David Eisenstat as the first Chair in Childhood Cancer at the University of Melbourne, formalising a groundbreaking research and clinical leadership role starting in late 2025.
These achievements are more than numbers; they’re lifelines, equipping hospitals, supporting families, and speeding advances in gentler, more effective cancer treatments for children.
